Dr. Caligari’s office was visited by madmen, attended by a mad hypnotist.
I reflect during this creative process, on madness. Ways of thinking that are different from ours seem crazy to us… Like that person is a little crazy.
Those who we understand as really crazy, live in a world that, because of their mental eccentricity, they do not know how to explain. Those of us who are sane in principle live in a weird mental world, we do things we don’t want to, we live lives we don’t want.
What is madness? Who’s crazy? The one who doesn’t coordinate, the one who does and says weird things? The one who is not understood when he speaks?
What if the insane were really sane and the sane were crazy?
Caligari shows symptoms of sane madness, of healthy and coordinated thoughts, of vain and disordered thoughts.
